Welcome to our Carry Class, presented by This class will allow you to qualify for your Minnesota permit to carry.

Your class will be taught by former presidential guard, Major Donald Raleigh, CAP. Maj Raleigh is the recipient of the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), and numerous other awards. Maj Raleigh has been certified as an  instructor under the rules of the MCPPA  for over 12 years. Maj Raleigh is also certified by the NRA (Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Personal Protection in the Home) the Minnesota DNR (Hunter Safety) and by (Lead Instructor and Certified by the Minnesota BCA to certify other instructors).


09:00 – Arrive at Metro Gun Club.  Details on how to get to Metro Gun Club can be found at
09:00 to 09:20 – Safety briefing and overview of club rules and conduct of the shooting event
09:20 to 10:30 – Rotation into the shooting range and qualification. You will be firing a minimum of 20 rounds and up to 50 rounds.  Please bring your own gun and 50 rounds of ammunition. Full details below.
10:30 to 11:00 – Move to the Anoka County Civil Air Patrol building.  Details on how to get to the CAP building can be found at
11:00 to 12:00 – Intro to the class and Lesson 1
12:00 to 13:00 – Lunch.  This will be a working lunch. We will have sandwiches that you will be able to make.  If you wish to bring your own, please do. We will also have coffee and water for you. Lesson 2 and 3
13:00 to 14:00 – Lesson 4 and 5
14:00 to 14:15 – Break and socializing
14:15 to 15:00 – Lesson 6 and 7
15:00 to 16:00 – Lesson 8
16:00 to end – Class recap and graduation – We are sure you want to stay for a bit and network with your fellow vets.  We will stay for at least an hour, and longer if your stories are good.


Items needed:

Please provide your own handgun and ammunition.  If you do not have one of your own we will have one for you, but you will need to bring .38 special ammunition (50 rounds)
If you have eye and ear protection, please bring it. If you do not, we will have at least 10 sets for you to use.
You will sign a waiver when you are at Metro Gun Club.  Please bring a pen!
Cost of the entire day is $50. This class is limited to TRUST VETS members and their families or very close friends (who are interested in joining TRUST VETS!)
There is a strict limit of 40 students for this class

You must be able to pass the following requirements:

The MCPPA requires Minnesota sheriffs to issue a permit to carry a firearm, to any applicant that meets the following criteria:

  1. Is 21 years old and a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. (You can take the class if you are within 1 year of your 21st birthday)
  2. Has completed training (as defined in subdivision 2a). (This class is 100% guaranteed to meet this criteria.
  3. Passes a stringent background check confirming that they are not prohibited from possessing a firearm, that they do not suffer from a mental illness, and that they meet other strict criteria.
  4. Is not listed in the Minnesota gang member “Pointer File” database maintained by the BCA.
  5. Is not considered a “danger to self or the public”.

Again, this class is Strictly Limited to 25 students.

Please understand, due to the low cost of this class and all the materials that are supplied there are no refunds. Don’t fret! You will be able to take a future class for no additional cost.
