You must be able to pass the following requirements:
The MCPPA requires Minnesota sheriffs to issue a permit to carry a firearm, to any applicant that meets the following criteria:
- Is 21 years old and a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. (You can take the class if you are within 1 year of your 21st birthday)
- Has completed training (as defined in subdivision 2a). (This class is 100% guaranteed to meet this criteria.
- Passes a stringent background check confirming that they are not prohibited from possessing a firearm, that they do not suffer from a mental illness, and that they meet other strict criteria.
- Is not listed in the Minnesota gang member “Pointer File” database maintained by the BCA.
- Is not considered a “danger to self or the public”.
